Aim of the REACH Program
Kingston State College is committed to ensuring that high performance and high capacity students are identified through a variety of avenues, and developed through appropriate curriculum provision, diversity of learning experiences and enriched by additional opportunities.
The REACH Program provides avenues for academic extension in 4 core subjects, giving students opportunities to work with peers at the same academic level, take on new challenges and enhance their academic capabilities. Opportunities for further academic enrichment and extension add significant value to student learning and contribute to an improvement to student outcomes into the future.
The purpose of the REACH Program is to:
- Target high performing and high capacity students to maximise their potential
- Improve student outcomes and their abilities to align with senior general and specialist subjects
- Give opportunities to participate in extra-curricular enrichment experiences
- Raise expectations and aspirations
The classes offered aim to support students by:
- Providing challenging and differentiated lessons
- Providing extra opportunities for higher order thinking
- Promoting deep engagement in academically rigorous tasks
- Encouraging interaction and collaboration with peers
- Fostering a positive academic culture
- Broadening horizons beyond the school setting
- Raising aspirations
- Enhancing self-belief and confidence
We believe that the REACH Program in a low SES school is essential, in terms of social justice, for providing equity and overcoming disadvantage.
