In keeping with the Kingston State College Mission Statement, Nothing Left to Chance, we aim to provide the environment, curriculum and teaching expertise to enable students to reach their potential. We believe that students need to have access to opportunities and programs to cater to their diverse needs.

Our school has a culture of shared responsibility and personal accountability for the management of all Senior Secondary students and their pathways.

Preparation for Senior Secondary begins in Year 10. Students are encouraged to explore the options available and to consider what subject areas they want to experience in readiness for future study in Year 11 and 12 and progression towards the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) or Queensland Certificate of Individual Achievement (QCIA).

Students in Year 10 receive detailed information about senior subjects. Information sharing regarding course availability and choices are held frequently and are formalized during Senior Education and Training Plan (SETP) meetings each year with Year 10 students and their parents/carers.

Student plans and progress are monitored at all stages of the assessment and reporting cycle and reviewed regularly with the Senior Schooling staffing team.

There are four types of senior subjects which are offered throughout the senior phase of learning:

  • General Subjects
  • Applied Subjects
  • Vocational Education and Training (VET) Courses

On Campus at Kingston State College

Kingston State College is a Registered Training Organisation. We also has Third Party Arrangements with other Registered Training Organisations to provide some training on our campus.

Please go to the Vocational Education page for specific details.

    TAFE at School

Opportunities are offered to Year 10 and 11 students in Semester 2 for courses at various TAFE campuses including SkillsTech and starting the following year.

    These include courses such as:

    •           Certificate II in Electrotechnology
    •           Certificate II in Automotive
    •           Certificate II in Salon Assist
    •           Certificate II in Health Support

These courses require a student to attend a TAFE/SkillsTech campus, one day a week for 12 months and complete their Certificate. They will gain QCE points as part of their school curriculum.

Please go to the Vocational Education page for specific details.

    External Registered Training Organisations

Like TAFE, other education facilities and RTOs may offer VET courses to School students one day per week. Completed qualifications from all RTOs contribute points towards the QCE.

    School based Traineeships & Apprenticeships

School based Traineeships and Apprenticeships are available to students in Years 10, 11 and 12. They are designed for students who know what they want to do e.g. hairdresser or panel beater, or have availability in their part-time employment away from school.

Students attend their work place one day during the week as well as school holidays and simultaneously study a VET qualification/trade. Training is usually conducted at the place of employment or in scheduled sessions at school.

School based Traineeships and Apprenticeships contribute points towards the QCE.

Please go to the Vocational Education page for specific details.

We aim to offer a diverse senior curriculum as outlined in the Senior Subject Selection Handbook. Please refer to the Senior Subject Selection Handbook for more detailed information on the subjects available.
