Week 2 Principal news

This week I would like to acknowledge the outstanding commitment of our teachers to provide our students with extracurricular experiences in the arts , academia and sport. During the school holidays I dropped into school to witness  four HPE teachers run 2 days of touch football training in the lead up to the Queensland All Schools touch competition held on the Gold Coast in week 1. This was the culmination of 3 months of training. Teachers spent time from the early hours to the late evening coaching and supervising students to ensure and enjoyable experience.

On Tuesday night I watched our senior debating team contest the grand final. Whilst they narrowly lost, our students felt supported by the number of teachers and students there to cheer them on – in fact they did win a school spirit award for the way they and their supporters conducted themselves. The debating program also requires teachers to work out of hours to coach and prepare teams.

I feel proud of the fact Kingston College provides students with opportunity to participate in the full range of extracurricular activities.

I recently circulated a survey to gauge parental support for a “hoodie" as an additional uniform item. The survey is still open for comment – click this link to participate:

Ensuring our students are in the correct uniform is important because:

Builds a sense of belonging

  • Reduces the need for student to compete on “brand names"
  • Being dressed for work is part of being ready for life – we dress differently for work than we do for play
  • Safety for students – we know who is on the grounds

On the whole our students are well presented and in uniform. The main issue is non uniform jumpers and on occasion some girls are wearing active wear or bike pants.  This is not appropriate for school.

Finally, from Monday 24th, we are changing our late procedures for students. If your child is late to school please tell them to go straight to their first class instead of the office. Their teacher will mark them present from the time they arrive.

Kingston College is a wonderful place for students to learn. I am committed as ever to ensure they feel safe, are taught well and can achieve to their potential.
